Haddock belongs to the same fish family as Alaska Pollock and Atlantic cod – known as the codfish or Gadidae. It can be easily distinguished by a large round black spot above the pectoral fin. The body shape is similar to cod but the chin barbel is much smaller. Haddock can grow up to more than 1 m in length and can live for up to 20 years, but is regularly caught when younger. They feed on benthic animals such as worms, molluscs and crustaceans and on other fish. They usually live close to the sea floor in a variety of habitats, over rock, sand, gravel or shells.
Haddock is caught with Trawls, Seines, Lines and Hooks and is available in our Birds Eye fish fingers.
